R & D Laboratory

CSL Silicones Inc. policy of innovation in the workplace naturally extends to our research and development laboratory. The task of our lab is twofold:

  1. To develop prototype materials for new applications.
  2. To thoroughly scrutinize the procedures required for our ongoing operations.

Following rigid CSL Quality Control, ISO and UL procedures, as well as industry standards, examinations of all batches determine both specification and process suitability. Our lab is equipped with mixers, ovens, viscometers and a variety of other test instruments to measure physical properties of materials. Using these instruments, we screen and report on the condition of all incoming and in-process materials before releasing them to production.  Finished product testing is also carried out on all production before the materials can be released to the customer.  Samples from every lot of material we produce are retained for ongoing monitoring of quality.

Enhanced testing of monomer process suitability is achieved through gas chromatographic spectral analysis. This device permits us to adjust process parameters allowing CSL to indentify and reduce variation for improved product quality.

Our Research and Development efforts keep CSL at the forefront of RTV silicone technology. Our Very Low-VOC (near 100% solids) coatings is only one example of this.

Product Performance

Silicone sealants, adhesives & coatings, wherever they are used, whether in construction, automotive, industrial, petro-chemical, electric power or consumer electronics applications, are the premium materials of today. This premium status is due to the unique chemistry of their components, particularly the chemistry of the silicone polymer.

We make finished silicone products from our own polymers according to our customers' exacting requirements. This is a unique competitive advantage that separates CSL from simple product formulators and compounders.  The ultimate elongation of our products can vary from 100 to 1,200 percent with 100 percent recovery; tensile strength from 100 to 1,000 psi; while modulus at 100 percent extension ranges from 20 to 500 psi and Shore A durometer hardness can range from 10 to 80.

CSL excels at putting together the proper polymer-ingredient combination to achieve the desired finished product qualities while keeping the cost as low as possible.

Besides standard products, CSL's specialty, one- and two-part RTV products are made to flow, resist heat and aggressive fluids, to be non-corrosive, flame retardant, bond tenaciously to various surfaces, exhibit excellent dielectric properties and cure quickly.

Depending on their application, CSL's products comply with various construction and industry standards and specifications.  Additional specifications can be met as required or requested by the customer.
